Block Facebook Apps Right From Your Wall Now

Over the Holidays, the Blingee Book Facebook app seemed to take over everyone's Facebook walls.

Our friends (mostly!) have good intentions and want to let us know they're thinking of us. However, I honestly MUCH prefer a nice personal, friendly greeting on my wall over an app. App postings are just so... well, impersonal!!!

In this video tutorial, I show how to block apps from being posted on your Facebook wall.

However, just recently, good news! Facebook have added a new link to app postings and now you have the option of blocking the app right from your wall per these screenshots:

Sweetened on Facebook

I've also begun removing such friends that post these frivolous type of apps where I really do not know personally know the person. I feel that if the only interaction we have is via apps, it's just so distant. It's not the type of relationships I'm striving for on my personal Facebook account.

What are your thoughts? I know a lot of people must be getting driven to distraction with the constant clutter too!! How do you deal with app postings when it's from people you know? Are you okay removing friends or would you rather just block the app and not let the friend know? Write your comments below:

I just block the apps.I believe friends mean well and probably want to draw me into their "world" with the invites and wall postings. I just don't have the inclination to "play" on Facebook.

Mari, thanks for sharing! I completely agree with your belief that our friends are just reaching out to us with whatever app they happen to be using right now (for example, I don't "get" the attraction to bejeweled or farmville, but I still want to remain friends with them (like my wife!) This new feature can be used as a polite screening tool to tailor individual preferences by each user. Ultimately, aren't we all trying to engage with each other on some level or commonality?

Thanks because I've wanted to block but was afraid that I was blocking everything for that friend. It's the subtle language that keeps me in fear... thanks for translating! BTW, jealous of you and happy for you - for getting to go tho the Grammy's! ;)

Thanks! Most of the people I "know" on FB use these as a way of saying "I'm thinking about you". Which is nice... but sometimes can get overwhelming. Being able to block the ones I'm not interested in without actually blocking the person is great.

I've been wondering if it was rude to remove these! I try to keep my wall an "App Free" zone. Just my own personal updates and friends comments.

I got the same one in one day from the same person, annoying as I don't really know them.
